Statistics: Google and Amazon dominate the smart speaker market

With five million Echos sold, Amazon is the undisputed number one in the ever-growing smart speaker market, according to estimates by Strategy Analytics. Amazon has been a pioneer of smart voice control since the e-commerce giant launched the first Echo speaker on the market in 2015. Since then, the business surrounding digital voice assistant Alexa has continued to grow.

Google entered the market at the end of 2016 and, with 1.9 million devices sold in the third quarter of 2017, already had a market share of 25 per cent. Together, Amazon and Google account for more than 90 per cent of the smart speaker market. This could change next year when Apple launches the HomePod on the market. Currently, JD.com, Yiaomi and Alibaba in particular share the remaining ten per cent, as the chart from Statista shows.
