Spring fatigue: What is that?

Spring fatigue is a common phenomenon that usually occurs when the seasons change from winter to spring. It not only affects children, but also adults. It is characterised by a feeling of tiredness, exhaustion and reduced performance. It often occurs when our body adjusts to the changed biological clock and the different light and temperature conditions. Due to the long winter with its short nights and cloudy days, the body has gone into energy-saving mode. However, with the arrival of spring, the body is stimulated by the increased solar activity, longer days and rising temperatures to stimulate itself again. This adjustment phase can lead to temporary tiredness, as the body needs some time to get used to the new circumstances.

Children are particularly susceptible to spring fatigue as they sometimes don't know why they suddenly feel so tired. Despite getting enough sleep and eating a nutritious diet, they feel exhausted and tired. Spring fatigue not only affects mood, but can also lead to irritability, difficulty concentrating and a drop in performance. It's important to recognise the symptoms of springtime fatigue in children and help them make a smooth transition through this phase.

Five strategies to help children avoid spring fatigue:

1. make sure you eat a balanced diet:

A diet rich in fresh fruit, vegetables and wholemeal products contains the nutrients the body needs to recharge its batteries and combat fatigue. Eating together as a family not only promotes a happy environment, but also emphasises the need for a balanced diet.

2. sufficient exercise:

Regular physical activity outdoors can significantly improve mood. When we take our children for regular walks in the park, go cycling or play in the playground, we not only ensure that they are physically active, but also revitalise their daily lives.

3. get enough sleep:

Restful sleep is essential to maintain and improve physical and mental health. To ensure that your child wakes up refreshed and full of energy, you should provide them with a pleasant sleeping environment and ensure a regular sleep-wake cycle.

4. relaxation methods:

To reduce tension and restore inner balance, you should incorporate breathing exercises or yoga into your children's daily routine. Shared moments of relaxation and mindfulness not only promote a closer relationship between parents and children, but also help to overcome tiredness.

5. create a good atmosphere:

Give your children a safe, caring and encouraging space in which they can express their feelings at home. Show them that you are supportive and present in both good and difficult times. Because the best cure for any kind of exhaustion is love and compassion.

6. natural sources of energy:

To improve concentration and eliminate fatigue, use natural energy boosters such as peppermint or citrus essential oils.

Let's banish spring tiredness together and give your children a bright start to spring!
