Few other countries have as many different types of bread as Germany. Every region has its own speciality. Small rolls are part of a good breakfast here and they are filled in very different ways. But they are always baked to a nice crisp. Germans love them warm from the bakery or fresh from the oven. And they cover the good bread roll with all kinds of goodies. As in France, a good breakfast is also important in this country.

It should be as nutritious as it tastes. You don't have to travel far in Germany to discover bread specialities from certain regions. There is also a trend towards organic shops that specialise in the production of particular types of bread. Some consumers are now also turning to bread with chia seeds or superfoods. Consumers are not only offered plain white bread, but also the option of particularly healthy bread. The bread can be savoury or sweet. Jam is a particular delicacy when it comes to sweet breads. Many Germans like to make it themselves.

In some federal states, people swear by strawberries or make cherry jam, while in the north, rosehip jam is often served for breakfast. Another speciality is honey. Here, too, there are many different varieties that are popular in Germany. After all, Black Forest bacon or ham is put on bread by people who like it rather savoury. But some cheese specialities can also be found on German bread rolls. As you can see, you can make your own menu about how Germans top their bread.

Even small children are given a healthy snack to take to school. If you live in Germany, you will probably have internalised the wide variety of this bread culture so much that you won't even notice it any more. But anyone who loves delicious bread simply has to love this country. It has preserved special types of grain over many centuries and still cultivates them today. They form the basis for the production of special types of bread. Even if every supermarket has bread in its range today, it still can't compete with the high quality bread from the baker.

Many Germans therefore still buy their bread from the bakery. They also have a nice bread basket in their home. The good bread can be stored in it for several days without drying out. After all, if you buy good quality bread, you want to be able to enjoy it. Some Germans even bake their own bread. With the right recipe and a little patience, you can bake a delicious loaf of farmhouse bread for the week or a tray full of tasty breakfast rolls in the oven at home.

The addition of fresh nuts or a special spice can give the bread the finishing touch. In some German cities and online, there are also suppliers who sell very special bread mixes. These can be used to bake high-quality bread easily and without special machines. You can get a taste for good bread in any German city.
