One of the country's specialities is its unique castles and palaces. They are many centuries old and yet well preserved. A castle is always worth a visit for a nice excursion or a hike. Some of the castles even have beautiful gardens around the castle. You can spend a pleasant time within the castle walls or in the shade of beautiful trees in the garden, even on hot days. They are a popular excursion destination in summer. But people also like to visit a castle in winter.
Many cities offer guided tours of their castles. During these tours, you can learn exciting stories about the Middle Ages or about the regional history of the respective castle. Both children and adults are provided with interesting information in an entertaining way. Many people in Germany appreciate and enjoy this. But even without a guided tour, a castle offers a unique sight. The old building or the ruins remind us of a bygone era. Some castles also have restaurants. People can stop for a bite to eat after a nice walk. There are even castle restaurants that have food or drinks from the Middle Ages on the menu.
Some castles and fortresses also organise medieval markets. These are a favourite event for many Germans. But whether you like the Middle Ages or not, the castle always offers a beautiful view. Most castles are located on mountains or in the middle of a forest. As ancient fortifications, they were built right here so that the enemy could not take them so quickly. The advantage of being located on a mountain is that you can enjoy a special view of the region's landscape from a castle. A castle is therefore also a beautiful destination for photographers.
Today, castles are also used by private individuals who take pictures with a drone. The drone can start its flight from the castle and look out over the landscape. Some castles are surrounded by beautiful lakes, small villages or an old vineyard. In any case, there are excellent conditions for beautiful aerial shots. Many Germans take advantage of this opportunity. Other countries do not always have such old castle complexes. When the castles and palaces were built, for example, America had not yet been discovered by Europeans. As a result, there are usually no such old buildings there - at least in the north.
Many tourists travelling from other countries therefore specifically visit the beautiful castles and castle ruins. Some castles in Germany are world-famous. The castle ruins in old Heidelberg, for example, are one of the favourite photo motifs of Japanese tourists. But there are also many castles in Bavaria. Neuschwanstein and others offer a backdrop that is straight out of a fairy tale. Many children are fascinated by castles of this kind. They stimulate their imagination and inspire young visitors. A castle is therefore one of the favourite destinations for family outings. Germany offers many different destinations in all federal states. You simply have to love the country for its beautiful castles.
